All four years 9th - 12th:

→ Throughout high-school, you need to maintain high grades and participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities. Read How to Build Your Profile for detailed information and resources to help create a strong profile.

→ Start journaling. Take time to reflect on your academics, activities, and personal life and write down everything regularly. This will help with writing college essays. A couple articles to get you started: Article 1, Article 2. You can find plenty of other resources online to help you with this.

Classes 9th - 10th (freshman and sophomore years):

All year:

→ Apply to summer programs at the end of 10th grade for your 11th grade summer.

→ Explore your academic and non-academic interests.

→ Find an academic focus. Is there any subject or topic that you go above and beyond to study? Try to find some opportunities (research, internships, independent projects) to go deeper into this field.

→ Participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities. You can explore, but try to find some activities that you really enjoy and would like to continue doing. Don't be afraid to take initiatives.

→ Try to develop a reading habit and work on improving your writing skills. The only way to write better is to write → get feedback → write.

→ Look into and start preparation for exams like NTSE and NSEJS. You can find a list of some such exams here (mainly for science and math students).

→ Start researching IB schools in India and abroad. There are tons of schools with scholarship programs.

June - December:

→ Look into AP tests for next year. You should try to take one or two tests in class 11th.

→ Apply to IB schools and look into summer programs for 12th grade.

→ Register for exams like NTSE and NSEJS.
